Blayne Chenoweth
Owner, Rocking Horse Arabians
“East coast girls are hip, and the Southern girls knock me out… I wish they all could be California girls….”
Blayne Chenoweth lived the lyrics of the famous Beach Boys song growing up in North Carolina and Philadelphia, but for the last decade she has been a full-blown California girl. Today the owner of Rocking Horse Arabians wouldn’t trade her West Coast Arabian lifestyle for anything. This young, energetic horsewoman (and mother of two boys) is passionate about the Arabian horse and committed to breeding trainable athletes who are sweet, willing participants and partners. “I’m in it for the love of the animals!” says Blayne.

Blayne is living the California dream at her ranch high on an oak- and manazanita-studded hill outside Ramona, California. One highlight of each day is late afternoon, when a cooling ocean breeze comes through, as Blayne and her best friend and farrier Elfta Hiltzmann sit outside overlooking the mountains and valleys below to reflect on the day and dream of the future. They are often joined by Blayne’s husband, Bill Chenoweth, who plays an active role in the farm’s operations.
A typical day at RHA includes collecting the farm’s three stallions for breeding (a task capably handled by breeding consultant Nadine Phillips), working young horses in the round pen, and getting performance horses out on the trail. While making a name for RHA in the sport-horse world, Blayne’s personal passion is endurance riding. Any one of her mature sport-horses is capable of completing a 50-mile or longer ride in the rugged California mountains, where they regularly compete.
